Mediating Science and the Public: Biotechnoscience, Media and Science Communication in India

This paper is an attempt to understand how bioscience, media and the public interact with each other and shape the discourse on the regulation of transgenic technologies in India. For this propose I looked at the newspaper reports related with the Bt Brinjal controversy which took place in the last two decades. The communication of policy science to the public is more challenging than the communication of the basic science. I analyzed biotechnology related coverage in three national English dailies such as The Hindu, Times of India, and Indian Express. Paper mapped changing trends in the media reporting on transgenic products and processes. Thus, paper argued that analysis of the media coverage helps us to unearth the production of knowledge in a mediated setting.
